If Robertson Pools built your gunite pool in Dallas–Fort Worth or Southern Oklahoma, you already have a large local builder with a dedicated post-build service operation — year-round weekly maintenance, repairs, leak detection, and green-to-clean from a Coppell service campus separate from their design and construction address. That in-house option is real and worth knowing about. What many owners still need spelled out is the channel split: structural and construction warranty questions stay with Robertson; weekly chemistry, filters, and salt cells can run on their service book or with an independent company. This page is the factual map for that choice — not a ranking, and not a claim that one path is required.
Who built it vs who maintains it
Robertson Pools (established 1985; family-owned) markets itself as a full-service DFW pool company: design centers, in-house construction trades, and a separate Service & Maintenance line. Construction and warranty conversations belong with the builder who poured the shell and signed the contract. Routine care — brushing, chemistry, filter pressure, salt cell output, freeze prep — is a different lane, even when the same company offers both.
Hiring independent weekly service does not, on any public Robertson page we reviewed, mean you forfeit the right to call them for structural or construction warranty issues. Keep the walkthrough packet, equipment list, and warranty contacts either way. Confirm any maintenance-related warranty conditions in your written contract; public marketing pages do not state that their weekly plan is required.
- Robertson channel: shell and structural concerns, finish punch list, remodel of work they built, builder warranty questions, optional in-house weekly/repair service if you choose their book
- Independent service channel: weekly chemistry and brushing, filter cleaning/backwash, salt cell inspection, heater and pump diagnosis, green-to-clean, freeze readiness — when you prefer a local specialist or a different route after handover
- Equipment warranties often still route through the manufacturer (and sometimes the seller/installer) — read model/serial paperwork before assuming either party owns every pad failure
Company footprint and how they build
Robertson’s public footprint is Coppell-centered construction with a Frisco design presence and a dedicated service campus next door in Coppell. Residential new construction is marketed as gunite / shotcrete, with the company claiming a majority of trades in-house (excavation, plumbing, tile, coping, decks, plaster) rather than a heavy subcontract model.
- Corporate / Coppell Design Center: 569-A South Coppell Rd, Coppell, TX 75019 — (972) 393-2152
- Frisco Design Center: 10475 Preston Rd, Frisco, TX 75033 — (214) 619-5555 — markets two display pools with full features plus material selections
- Service & Maintenance (separate campus): 561 South Coppell Rd, Coppell, TX 75019 — (972) 393-2884 / Service@RobertsonPools.com
- Stated area: Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex and Southern Oklahoma; north corridor cities include Frisco, Prosper, Celina, McKinney, Little Elm, Plano; Coppell corridor lists Southlake, Flower Mound, Colleyville, Grapevine, Fort Worth, and more
- Construction type: gunite / shotcrete residential (plus remodeling and outdoor living); company marketing also cites long-running Paramount in-floor cleaning system recognition on its About page
- Scale claims are company marketing (e.g. established 1985, “over 40 years,” “50,000+ pools”) — treat as self-reported, not independently audited here
Warranty vs weekly service: when to call whom
Robertson’s city pages say maintenance and warranty are covered at final walkthrough. A clear public lifetime-structural warranty page comparable to some national brands was not found as of this research date — exact structural and finish terms live in your contract packet. Separately, their pool service pages sell year-round weekly maintenance, equipment repair/replacement, leak detection, acid wash, and green-to-clean from the dedicated Coppell service address.
Wrong inbox wastes time. Green water and a scaled salt cell are service problems. A growing shell crack or deck pulling from the bond beam is a builder/warranty problem — call Robertson’s construction/warranty side, not the chemistry tech first.
| Symptom | Call first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Shell cracks, deck heave/settlement, structural tile/bond-beam concerns | Robertson (warranty / construction) | Clay movement and construction coverage live on the builder side of the contract |
| Punch-list leftovers from handover; remodel of work they built | Robertson | Still inside the construction relationship |
| Green, cloudy, or dull water; algae after a heat wave | Weekly service (Robertson’s book or independent) | Chemistry and filtration failure mode — not a shell claim |
| Filter PSI climbing vs clean baseline; salt cell scale or low output | Weekly service | Hard North Texas water and summer load are routine ops |
| Suspected leak; unexplained water loss beyond summer evaporation | Depends | Service can bucket-test; Robertson also markets leak detection — use warranty posture if the leak looks construction-related |
Texas heat and clay: reading the failure mode
Large parts of Dallas–Fort Worth sit on expansive clay that swells wet and shrinks dry. That is a structural story — pier design, drainage, backfill — and it belongs with Robertson when the shell or deck is the patient. Texas summer heat is a chemistry story: chlorine demand spikes, algae can accelerate in roughly a couple of days of neglect in peak heat, and hard fill water (often roughly 190–340 ppm hardness depending on the city) scales salt cells and heaters.
Rule of thumb for year one on a Robertson pool: green water, rising filter PSI, and a tired salt cell are service problems — whether you stay on Robertson’s weekly route or hire independent care. Cracks, settlement, and major deck shift are installer problems. Do not wait on a structural concern hoping a shock treatment will fix it — and do not open a warranty ticket for algae.
- Service lane: green/cloudy water, high filter PSI vs clean baseline, scaled or under-producing salt cell, heater scale, summer chlorine demand
- Installer lane: shell cracking, differential settlement, major deck shift, construction punch list, published warranty claims under your contract
- Keep both numbers: Robertson warranty/construction contact and whoever runs your weekly route
First-year checklist + next step
Year one is literacy and cadence, not more construction. Lock this down before the first stretch of 100-degree days — whether you stay with Robertson Service & Maintenance or schedule independent weekly care.
- File the paperwork: contract, warranty language from walkthrough, equipment model/serial list, automation login, start-up chemistry sheet, as-builts or drain locations if provided
- Write down clean-filter PSI at handover — that number is your baseline when pressure climbs mid-season
- Decide the maintenance lane early: Robertson’s dedicated service campus (561 S Coppell Rd) or an independent weekly route — either is valid; drifting into DIY-until-August is how green pools start
- If you have a salt system or in-floor cleaning features: schedule salt tests and cell/system inspections; hard North Texas water scales quietly
- Watch calcium/scale on tile, the cell, and the heater — plan periodic cleaning rather than waiting for a fault code
- Build a freeze plan before the first hard freeze: circulate, protect the pad, or use a professional protocol
- Keep gates self-closing and self-latching after landscaping settles
- Follow Robertson’s plaster/start-up brushing and chemistry instructions; aggressive early mistakes burn goodwill and can sour warranty conversations
- Budget operating cost as a real line item — local contractor content often cites roughly $3,000–$6,500/year for ownership (chemicals, service, power, repairs) as a planning range, not a quote
Independent weekly care when you want a second option
Home Builder Pool Pros is an independent pool service company. We do not build pools and we are not Robertson’s maintenance arm. If you want a local weekly chemistry and equipment route while keeping Robertson on speed dial for shell and warranty questions, schedule a visit so we can see the pad and water in person.
